Job Description:

We are seeking a qualified candidate with excellent troubleshooting skills for complicated hardware and software issues.  The System Engineer/Customer Support will be responsible for troubleshoot customer issues and supporting new and existing customer deployments, both with on-site visits and remote support.  The execution of customer acceptance test plans and creation of training materials will also be required.

Minimum Requirements (Please apply if you meet these):

Skills: Layer two protocols, VLAN, Ethernet switching, STP, QoS, TCP/IP.
Background: Support, Engineer, QA or Test

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to customer inquiries, remote or on-site.
  • Resolve customer technical issues through diligent research, reproduction, and troubleshooting.
  • Work directly with other technical support staff, quality assurance, engineering, sales, marketing, operations, and administration to resolve problems.
  • Document all technical inquiries, develop and review content for knowledgebase.
  • Help test alpha and beta products.

Required Technical Skills:

  • Have extensive knowledge of networking technologies, optical communication principles, routing protocols, Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking stack, L2 Switching, 802.1x , VLAN, STP, QoS, IGMP, PIM and SNMP.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with L2/L3 switches and routers, Experience in an enterprise LAN/WAN environment.
  • Ability to look at and analyze network traces. (ethereal, smartBit, MIBs)
  • Experience with Cisco or Network hardware manufactured products. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience

Preferred Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with PON technology, L2/L3 networking, Ethernet.
  • HTML skills for support website design.
  • Effective communicator.
  • Experience with switch and routing protocols (CCNA or more)
