OPTICAL NETWORK SYSTEMS SELECTS IKANOS COMMUNICATIONS FXTM
CHIPSETS FOR FIBER EXTENSION OVER COPPER
Fx Programmable Chipsets to Extend FTTx
Services at up to 100 Mbps over Copper
Fremont, Calif., May 25th, 2004—Ikanos Communications, developer
of Smart Silicon for Profitable Broadband, today announced
Salira Optical Network Systems has selected Ikanos’ Fx programmable
chipsets for use in its high-speed Salira 2000 EPON platform.
Salira is a leading Passive Optical Network (PON) systems
provider and the number one Ethernet over PON (EPON) provider
in China. Ikanos Fx chipsets enable Salira to develop line
cards to extend fiber-based services at up to 100 Mbps over
a single copper pair. With the Fx based system, carriers can
deploy fiber to the neighborhood, curb, or building and take
advantage of last-mile copper to affordably deliver voice,
video and high-speed data directly to the customer site.
“Ikanos delivers the highest bandwidth and the most aggressive
delivery schedule,” said Rick Li, Chief Operating Officer
for Salira. “The Fx fiber extension chipset not only ensures
superior value and performance for our carrier customers,
but it will enable us to deliver a universal standards-based
platform with an extremely powerful range of options. By providing
a means to extend FTTx services via copper, we give carriers
a pragmatic way to deliver very affordable services at greatly
accelerated deployment schedules.”
“Salira has distinguished itself as an industry innovator
in a very high-growth market,” said Rajesh Vashist, president
and CEO for Ikanos Networks. “We look forward to working with
Salira to provide high-performance service platforms that
offer exceptional carrier value and flexibility.”
